The Video

The iPod Video comes in 3 memory sizes: 30GB, 60GB (Discontinued) and the 80GB.  The Video is able to contain pictures, music, and Video’s.  Although the 60GB and 80GB size are slightly thicker then the 30GB, they fit into mostly the same cases unless otherwise noted on the case.  The Memory size is engraved on the back, and uses a USB 2 for syncing/downloading music.  Comes in White or Black

The Classic

Introduced in 2007 the iPod Classic is a classic touch on the traditional ipod Video. Although thinner the Classic has all the same compatibility as the older versions, except the signature white material is replaced with silver (the back of the player). Two versions were made 80GB and 160GB

iPod Touch

A Completely new Ipod emerges with the iPod Touch. Scroll/click wheels have been dismissed and are now replaced with a complete touch screen. Although resembling closely to the iPhone, the iPod Touch has a long screen and is controlled solely threw the touch of a finger. It also comes with a web browser (optional). The available size when released was: 8GB and 16GB and it only came in Black.

Nano 1st Generation                                    Nano 2nd Generation

How do you tell the difference between the 1st generation and the 2nd generation Nano?  For one thing the 2nd generation of Nano is smaller then the 1st, and also comes in 5 elaborate colors.  Like the 1st one you can find the dock connector and the earphone jack at the bottom of the Nano, but unlike the 1st Nano the 2nd generation comes in 3 different Memory sizes: 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB.  The 1st Generation Nano only comes in 1GB.  You can find the memory size on the 2nd generation Nano engraved on the back.  Both use a USB 2 cable to sync and download music, both come with color screens and photo compatibility.

The Mini

             VS

Mini 1st Generation                                           Mini 2nd Generation

The iPod Mini also has two models, the 1st generation and the 2nd generation.  The 2nd can easily be determined from the 1st by the hard drive size engraved on the back, and the click wheel text matching the mini’s color (unlike the 1st which was only silver).  The 1st generation only came with 4GB’s, while the 2nd came with 4GB and 6GB capacity.  Both generations are the same size and can fit into the same cases, and use a USB 2 to sync/download music.

The Shuffle

                                     VS

Shuffle 1st Generation                                                    Shuffle 2nd Generation

The iPod Shuffle has two different versions to it.  The 1st generation and the 2nd generation shuffle.  The 1st generation is able to connect to the computer via USB cable, and was offered in two different memory sizes: 512 MB, and 1 GB.  Both of these were the same size, and can fit into the same cases.  The 2nd generation shuffle is a small rectangle shape, has no USB port and has a 1GB memory capacity.

4th Generation Ipod

The 4th Generation iPod comes in 2 different disk space sizes: 20GB and 40GB.  Comes with color screen and a click wheel, similar to the Ipod Video, and uses a USB 2/Firewire cable to sync/download music. This model was considered ideal for pictures, and has been discontinued by Apple.

The 1st, 2nd & 3rd Generation iPod

1st/ 2nd Generation                                              3rd Generation

The original iPods;  the 1st generation has a 5GB or 10GB disk drive the 2nd comes with 10GB/20GB disk drive.  Both generation’s have the classic scroll wheel and use a Fire wire cable for syncing music.  The 3rd generation comes in 10GB/15GB/20GB/30GB/40GB and comes with a touch wheel and menu buttons above the wheel.  The 3rd generation uses a docking system to connect to the computer and charge the iPod.  All of the above iPod’s have been discontinued by the Apple Company.
